Write one paragraph each for why Jack and the Giant both deserve our sympathy.

Jack deserved our sympathy as he and his family was very poor. They only had one milk cow’s milk to sell and to earn money. When the cow gave no milk, they had no income for the day. When Jack offered to go out and work, his mother replied that no one would take him. So they had to sell the cow, known as Milky-White, to get money to start a shop for their living. When he sold Milky-White and got 5 magical beans, his mother instead scolded him for being stupid and foolish for exchanging the cow with five beans. She then deprived him of his supper, since Jack was out for the whole day, he had to starve. Thus I sympathise him.

The giant also deserved our sympathy as he did not deserve to die. He was just living a normal life, when the old man gave Jack the beans, Jack went up into his house and began stealing all of his possession. It is very sad to have your precious belongings stolen by a burglar. What’s more, at the end of the story, the giant was killed by Jack, when he did not even deserve to die, just getting back what was taken from him.
